OMA’s February 2008 total passenger traffic increases 16.4%
•     Domestic traffic grows 22.5%


Monterrey, Mexico, March 10, 2008—Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA, reports that total passenger traffic (terminal passengers) at its 13 airports increased 16.4% in February 2008, as compared to February 2007. The increase is a result of the double digit growth in domestic passenger traffic.


Domestic traffic in February 2008 increased 22.5% (+172,421 passengers), compared to the prior year period. All thirteen airports reported growth in domestic passenger traffic as a result of the increase in passengers served by airlines that opened routes during recent months. The airports that reported the most significant growth in passenger traffic were Reynosa, Ciudad Juárez, San Luis Potosí, Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Culiacán, Mazatlán, Durango, and Monterrey.


International traffic decreased 2.7% (-6,657 passengers) in February 2008, as compared to February 2007. International traffic at the Acapulco, Mazatlán and Zihuatanejo airports, located in tourist destinations, decreased as a result of the reduction in charter flights and a decrease in frequencies by scheduled international airlines. The airports that recorded the most significant increases were Monterrey, Chihuahua, and San Luis Potosí, as a result of the increase in frequencies of several international routes.



Considering that February 2008 had 29 days, the percentage change in passengers for the first 28 days as compared to February 2007 was: 11.7% increase in total passenger traffic, 17.4% increase in domestic passengers, and 6.0% decrease in international passengers.

By airport

Monterrey, OMA’s principal airport, served 501,191 passengers in February 2008, an increase of 17.2% (+73,426 passengers) compared to the same month of 2007. Domestic traffic at Monterrey airport increased 18.6%, as a result of the growing volume of passengers served by the new airlines. International traffic rose 8.9% as a result of an increase in frequencies of international flights.

Passenger traffic at the airports of Ciudad Juárez and Reynosa, located in cities on the U.S. border, grew 43.0% and 107.4% respectively. Both airports have benefited from the new domestic airlines that began operating in 2007.
