OMA reports May 2011 passenger traffic
 
 
 
Monterrey, Mexico, June 8, 2011—Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (NASDAQ: OMAB; BMV: OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 1.7% in May 2011, as compared to May 2010. Domestic traffic increased 2.9%, and international traffic decreased 5.7%.
 
Of total May traffic, 96.3% was commercial aviation and 3.7% was general aviation.
 
 
 
 
Domestic traffic increased in nine airports in May, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+4.9%), Tampico (+24.5%), Ciudad Juárez (+14.3%), Torreón (+12.7%), and San Luis Potosí (+24.2%). In Monterrey, traffic increased on the Mexico City and Cancún routes. In Tampico, traffic increased on the routes to Mexico City and Monterrey.  In Ciudad Juárez, general aviation increased, as did traffic on the Mexico City route. In Torreón, traffic increased on the Mexico City route. In San Luis Potosí, there was an increase on the Mexico City route and in general aviation. Traffic decreased most at the airports in Acapulco (-26.5%), Culiacán (-5.0%), and Chihuahua (-6.0%). In Acapulco, the decrease was primarily on the Mexico City and Guadalajara routes.  In Culiacán, the decrease was on the Toluca and Tijuana routes.  The decrease in Chihuahua was principally on the Toluca and Guadalajara routes. The suspension of the airlines of Grupo Mexicana continued to affect Culiacán and Acapulco traffic.
 
International traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+15.6%), principally on the Houston route. The greatest decreases were recorded in Zacatecas (-53.9%), Mazatlán (-18.8%), Zihuatanejo (-34.4%), and Acapulco (-45.2%).  Zacatecas traffic decreased most on the Los Angeles route. Mazatlán traffic decreased most on the Los Angeles and Phoenix routes. Zihuatanejo traffic decreased principally on the Los Angeles and Houston routes. Acapulco was most affected on the Houston route.
 
The total number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in May decreased 7.9% as compared to the prior year period. Domestic flights decreased 9.0%, and international flights increased 0.8%.
